Thirty thousand two hundred and ninety (30,290) gallons of transformer oils were processed. The treatment was provided by Sunohio mobile PCBX treatment units in December 1981 at the TVA Power Service Shops, Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This report documents the findings associated with the reclamation of PCB-contaminated transformer oils by the Sunohio PCBX process, a chemical destruction process for Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Because the contaminant data in the barn swallow hatchlings and nestlings seem to reflect the sediment chemistry nearby the colony, this study suggests that barn swallows are a useful biomonitoring species for this AOC. These data suggest that contaminants in the water and sediment of the GCR/IHC are being incorporated into the vertebrate food chain via aquatic insects.
